New player thoughts...
Finally got my chance to demo the game, (Factions and Prophecies).
The graphics are great, players look great! The overuse of collision hulls on npcs and terrain is ridicules. You can't even jump down off of a 1 foot high ledge. Sometimes making you go way out of your way and around just to get somewhere that was only a few feet away. Am I missing something or can I not find the jump button? I haven't seen anyone else jump either. The fact I can see across a river but get stopped by some invisible wall half way across... this is some pretty bad design. There are many, many more "little" things like that, that are rather annoying but the deal breaker for me is the fact that every single thing you do is instanced. This is only an mmo when you're in town and that sucks. |

There is no jump button in Guild Wars, and you can't swim either. If you pay attention to the ground below the water, you'll see underwater cliffs that'll let you know when you can't walk through water anymore.

One of the great points of GW is its instanced. If your looking for just "another" bog standard MMO there are plenty out there. GW does things a little differently.
You cant jump ingame, and yes you are meant to find your way around. As for water as RPGmaniac said there are underwater cliffs that you can see. From an RPG aspect assume your char cant jump or swim becauses hes wearing a whole load of armor and/or has a whole bunch of items and weapons in a backpack making him to heavy . GW2 will allow jumping and swimming however. |

When I started playing Guild Wars it was after nearly 2 years of it being neglected on my hard drive. I had been deep into WoW and couldn't juggle 2 games. So, I had a "culture shock" when I started to play Guild Wars. The movement in the game world with no jumping or falling off cliffs took some getting used to. I disabled click to move in the game options and it made my transition a lot easier. For navigating through a lot of obstacles, double clicking your target makes it very easy. |

Seriously though, if you cry because you can't jump, uninstall. I myself have been plenty anguished over the shoddy programming however, and I still can't get over these mega-invisible-corners that always get me killed. But I keep playing. Miracle? No. Tolerance? Yes. |

Yeah. I REALLY don't understand why all the WoW fans get so ticked off that you can't jump (maybe it has something to do with the fact that that is the only thing you do in WoW PvP is jump around in circles). It's not a big deal. Yes the game is designed with walls, etc because they have to have some sort of limit to where you can and can't go. Unless you are shooting for the cartographer titles, finding all those invisible walls isn't a big deal.
